Snow Banff

The first snow dumps around Banff are early, these allow the ski resorts to open from November and stay open until May. This is one of the longest ski seasons in the Canadian Rockies. In the 1930s Banff became the first commercial ski area in America because of its fantastic and reliable snow - the highest mountain passes and trails even remain snowy until the middle of summer. The incredibly low temperatures mean that wrapping up well is required most of the time but the weather phenomena, Chinooks, bring occasional warmer temperatures to the area which ease the bitter cold, and also bring even more snow.
