Although not the highest resort in the area, Les Houches still receives a good amount of snow every year and as most of the slopes run through forests the ski area retains snow well. The other slopes in Les Houches, which aren't sheltered by trees, are on grassy hillsides - therefore even if the snow cover is thin, the surface underneath is nice and soft. When the higher resorts in the valley have to close their lifts due to high winds or are suffering white-out conditions you'll find Les Houches still open. Its sheltered forest trails provide the best skiing and boarding conditions when the weather turns or visibility is poor elsewhere. |
