Valmeinier Ski Resort Information

Situated in the south of the Savoie region, Valmeinier lies on the border where the Northern and Southern French Alps meet. It's a small resort with access to a large ski domain, Valmeinier is lift linked to the neighbouring resort of Valloire, and combined they make the Galibier-Thabor ski area. This area has an immense 1,600 hectares of skiing, with 150km marked slopes across four mountain sides. In addition to the regular slopes and the off-piste areas, Galibier-Thabor also has four competition slalom slopes, an extra large snowpark, three sledging runs, and an ARVA park - a training zone for avalanche search and rescue.
This vast snow-covered natural playground isn't only for skiers and snowboarders, it's also accessible on foot. There are loads of snowshoe trails you can follow, allowing you to take in the scenery at your own pace and discover the nature in the area. There are also many themed guided walks available, like the evening hike "Meet the Wolves", or the gastronomic "Gourmet Snowshoe Treks" which include a picnic en route and a fondue meal at the end.
Other activities in Valmeinier include dog sledding, night skiing, speed riding, and you can even take your first microlight flight! For less energetic activities the resort has a cinema, bowling alley, and loads of shops. To relax after a busy day Valmeinier 1800 has several spas where you can de-stress with massages or in saunas.
In the evenings Valmeinier is quite quiet with a good choice of restaurants and bars, but not as many late-night bars and clubs as some of the bigger resorts. However the tourist office does organise a lot of evening activities like shows and performances, evening hikes, sledging, and ice skating.
Valmeinier and all its snow sports opportunities are ideally located for weekend breaks or short trips from the UK - it's only a two hour drive from Lyon Saint Exupery, Turin, Chambery, Grenoble Saint Geoirs, and Geneva airports.
