Allos 1800 looks more modern than the typical Allos village. However, the mountain aesthetic is preserved in the buildings made entirely of wood. Resort life is based around the central square. The proximity of the Mercantour natural park adds a mountain setting typical of the Southern Alps. Road access is somewhat long, but the drive up the Upper Verdon Valley past the fortified city of Colmar les Alpes (not to be missed!) is absolutely breathtaking.
